I know when you hear of size most people think one of two things. Either bigger must be better or maybe I can save a couple of bucks getting something a little smaller. The answer is more simple than you can imagine. Get the size that really fits your space.
Each room is different, today we are going to discuss a very popular room for area rugs, the dining room. The dining room or kitchen is in my opinion the easiest one to size out. The size table is going to dictate what your really need.
Standard rectangle tables are the easiest. I generally tell people that if you have 4 chairs you can go as small as a 6x8. If your table accommodates 6 go for that 8x11. If you have a leaf that makes the table longer your going to want to get that 10x13. The reason is that if you go smaller the table will fit but the chair definetly wont. The chairs will be hanging off the sizes of the rug and that generally does not look good. You also don't want a size that makes your table look small.
Measure your table and add 2 feet in length and 2 feet in width that's the true usable size of your table.
Rounds and Ovals are special. I really love a round rug under a round table. Nothing complements a round rug more. I will post a picture of one of our rugs that I put in my own home with my beautiful round table.
As with any rug, I would advise a rug pad. This rug pad will give your rug strength and keep it from bending from the weight of the table.
I will be continuing this topic at a later date.
